Creating a welcoming community is something we achieve together.

That’s why Wandsworth Welcomes Refugees launched the Sanctuary Clinics, a series of free online lunchtime sessions bringing organisations across Wandsworth together to share ideas, learn from one another and explore practical ways to create more welcoming and inclusive communities. 

Each clinic focuses on a different topic, combining guest speakers, shared learning and discussion to help organisations take positive steps on their sanctuary journey.

What We’ve Explored So Far 

Our first two clinics have explored some of the foundations of creating welcoming communities: 

• What is Sanctuary? – exploring what it means to create welcoming spaces and how organisations can embed sanctuary values into their everyday work. 
• Language and Communication – looking at how the words we use, the information we provide and the way we communicate can help people feel respected, included and supported. 

These sessions have sparked thoughtful discussions and shared practical ideas that organisations can apply in their own settings - whether they’re just beginning their sanctuary journey or looking to build on existing work. 

Over the coming months, we’ll continue exploring new topics and sharing the learning that emerges from each session.

We know that not everyone can attend every clinic, so this blog is just the beginning.
