Who we are

We are a volunteer-run charity in Wandsworth. Having started as a community group in 2016, we gained charitable status in 2022. As the lead City of Sanctuary group for Wandsworth, we believe everyone who seeks sanctuary should be provided support, dignity and welcome.

Mary is a longtime member, and works on building connections within the community to build sanctuary and welcome.

Barbara is a founding member and works on sanctuary policy and awareness, and liaising with the Council Borough of Sanctuary initiative.

Penny is the chair of our working committee and has been involved in Sanctuary since 2020, and was instrumental in gaining charitable status.

Sam prepares our newsletter and takes care of the social media accounts, all of which have grown significantly over the past few years.

Ellie is our treasurer and worked with Penny to establish a formal footing for the group, enabling us to gratefully receive financial donations.

Amy is a trustee and adept at charitable governance and programme management, and joined us in 2023.

Emily is our wonderful volunteer manager, keeping track of who is doing what and onboarding new volunteers.

Alex is our libraries lead and has done a lot with Wandsworth libraries closer to Sanctuary status.

Grethe is a new trustee from 2023 following her meaningful experience as a Homes for Ukraine host

Molly is a trustee with a background in major national charities from a strategic communications perspective.

Volunteer with Us

Wandsworth Welcomes Refugees is entirely led by volunteers, and we would be delightedto welcome anyone with a passion for making an impact in their community to join ourTeam. We are particularly keen to hear from people from under-represented or minoritised groups - and from people with lived experience of displacement.
