Calling volunteers to support learning at CARAS

CARAS has been running a very busy programme of online activities throughout our year of lockdowns with our schedule now even more full than it was pre-pandemic! We have English classes, study groups, computer club, yoga, art, social groups, a men’s mental health group and our women’s group. There has been a great deal to do in supporting people to access digital devices and to be confident to use them. Working in partnership with other local organisations has helped enormously, with collective efforts between CARAS, Care for Calais, WWR and Little Village to name a few making a big difference to the lives of newly arrived people in our communities. We have been glad to be able to offer outdoor activities to a very small number of young people working in Tooting Community Garden every week, and we have encouraged people to stay active through running groups and yoga. The next few months of change as we emerge from lockdown will see some significant changes as we re-introduce face to face groups for more people, whilst retaining a strong online offer and continuing to reach as many people as possible. We’ll share updates on our social media. We would love to hear from anyone who would like to volunteer- we’ll have positions opening up both for online groups and face to face work. We are especially interested in hearing from people who speak Amharic, Arabic, Dari, Farsi, Pashto, Russian, Somali, Tigrigna or Urdu. Click here to find out more.
