Help us create Wandsworth Sanctuary: #TogetherwithRefugees

Wandsworth Welcomes Refugees is the official City of Sanctuary area group. Refugees and asylum seekers are forced to flee their homes and make the perilous journey to the UK. If they make it here, they often face a hostile welcome - poor living conditions, isolation and discrimination.

City of Sanctuary UK holds the vision that the UK will be a welcoming place of safety for all and proud to offer sanctuary to people fleeing violence and persecution.

We are actively seeking to engage:

  • schools, theatres, libraries, shops, restaurants and other institutions in becoming refugee-friendly sanctuaries

  • interested individuals including those in local politics, refugee work or those wanting to help out in any way they can

Join the Wandsworth Sanctuary network Whatsapp group to be kept informed about local refugee news and opportunities to volunteer and donate. You can also email us for more information.

Wandsworth Sanctuary launch event - April 2021

Launch event: April 2021

The event had over 70 attendees and was hosted by Putney MP and Wandsworth Welcomes Refugees co-founder, Fleur Anderson. Read the full write-up in our blog post.

Progress this year

We are in discussions with a number of schools, libraries, theatres and charity shops who are interested in becoming Sanctuaries. One shop has already given some much-needed donations of devices, shoes and clothes to local asylum seekers and we will continue to build on this relationship.

We're looking for volunteers!
